The Fisher Difference: About Fisher
When Ken Fisher founded Fisher Investments in 1979, he envisioned building a better type of business. He wanted to educate investors on the things they need to know to become better-informed consumers.
Since early on, Ken has always been looking for ways to think differently about the investment environment. That included not just pioneering new capital markets ideas—such as the price-to-sales ratio—but also a unique business model and client service approach. As a fiduciary, Fisher Investments is legally obligated to put its client’s best interests first The key to a quality client-adviser relationship is trust, and Fisher Investments believes a business model that is aligned with its client's interest is the best way to build a long-lasting, relationship. To create client portfolios, Fisher Investments uses a top-down approach which emphasizes broader economic factors before selecting individual securities. The strategy determines the allocation and selection of assets based on macroeconomic characteristics and the expected impact on different areas of the market. Once the firm has identified the areas they think will perform well, they can select individual securities within those areas.

FISHER INVESTMENTS CANADA™
Gentle piano music plays.
A man dressed in a navy suit appears. A fly-out in the lower right corner identifies him as Nathan Fisher, Senior Executive Vice President, 401(K) Solutions.
The fly-out disappears.
The music lowers in volume.
Nathan Fisher: When my father, Ken Fisher, founded Fisher Investments, he was on a mission. He envisioned building a better type of business, one that bettered the investment universe by educating investors on the things they needed to know to be more informed consumers.
Another man dressed in a navy suit appears. A fly-out in the lower right corner identifies him as Michael Hanson, Senior Vice President, Research.
The fly-out disappears.
Michael Hanson: Ken was looking for advantages and ways to think differently about how the investment environment worked, and he pioneered many things, including the Price-to-Sales ratio. He started to look at things like small cap value in the institutional world in ways that nobody had before. And that was how the firm really got its start. And, over time it's evolved to a very unique place, that now has a top-down philosophy and offers our customers services we never would have imagined going back so far.
A man dressed in a dark grey suit appears. A fly-out in the lower right corner identifies him as Orlando Copeland, Relationship Manager.
The fly-out disappears.
Orlando Copeland: We created a model within our business focused on helping private clients, but offering the same level of portfolio construction and investment guidance that many of the large institutions we work with around the world benefit from.
Michael Hanson appears back on screen.
The camera remains focused on him, occasionally changing angle.
Michael Hanson: Fisher Investments has really grown quite a lot over time. When I started at the firm, we were just about 150 employees and had about $10 billion under management. We're very proud to say now that we have well over 2500 employees and manage over $100 billion in assets.
A woman dressed in a lavender sports jacket appears. A fly-out in the lower right corner identifies her as Jill Hitchcock, Senior Executive Vice President, US Private Client Group.
The fly-out disappears.
The camera remains focused on her, occasionally changing angle.
Jill Hitchcock: Fisher Investments has four primary businesses. Our US Private Client Group serves high net worth investors in the United States. And as well, we have an International Private Client Group that serves European high net worth investors. We have an Institutional business that serves institutions worldwide, as well as a 401(k) business.
Another man dressed in a navy suit appears. A fly-out in the lower right corner identifies him as Bill Glaser, Executive Vice President, Portfolio Management.
The fly-out disappears.
The camera remains focused on him, occasionally changing angle.
Bill Glaser: We've structured our business such that we always want to place our clients’ interests before our own. And that fiduciary responsibility is one that we don't take lightly. We also believe in transparency, not only in terms of the fees that we charge, but also in terms of how we manage portfolios. We're very direct and proactive with our communications. We offer a very flexible, globally driven, top-down investment approach. And we provide, what I believe to be, a world class service organization. I think the service offering we have is really unparalleled in this industry.
Jill Hitchcock appears back on screen.
Jill Hitchcock: Many of our employees have worked elsewhere in the industry and when they come to Fisher Investments, they realize how a true fiduciary operates and how what we're doing is different and really aligned with the interests of our clients.
A woman dressed in a beige sports jacket appears. A fly-out in the lower right corner identifies her as Jessica Smith, Client Services Vice President.
Jessica Smith: We are absolutely obsessed with creating the best possible experience for our clients, and it's something that permeates throughout the firm.
Another man dressed in a navy suit appears. A fly-out in the lower right corner identifies him as Naj Srinivas.
The fly-out disappears.
The camera remains focused on him, occasionally changing angle.
Naj Srinivas: These are people who've worked their entire lives to amass a pool of money. And they're asking us to take this pool of money and then provide for them in retirement or otherwise, and help them live a more comfortable life. In my view, there's really no more noble profession than that—to be able to have a company that: values its clients first and foremost; puts their interests ahead of anything else; tries to do right by them always, and help them along the path to reaching their long-term goals and objectives. That's really what our mission is, in my view.
