Fisher Investments Reviews: Last Week in Markets—December 23 - December 27
Fisher Investments recaps the biggest market, political and economic news from last week, including US, UK, eurozone, Japanese and Chinese December GDP, imports and exports, industrial production and unemployment.
In the US, preliminary November durable goods orders fell 1.1% m/m, missing expectations. New home sales rose 5.9% m/m in November, above forecasts.
In the UK, the final estimate of Q3 2024 GDP remained flat q/q and rose 0.9% y/y. Q3 2024 imports and exports fell 2.5% q/q and 0.5% q/q, respectively.
In Japan, preliminary November industrial production fell 2.3% m/m and 2.8% y/y. November retail sales rose 2.8% y/y, exceeding estimates. Imports fell 3.8% y/y in November, while exports rose 3.8% y/y. The November unemployment rate remained steady at 2.5% for the second consecutive month.
The Week Ahead
The US, UK, eurozone, China, and Japan report final December Manufacturing PMIs. The UK and eurozone release November money supply data.
